Roma complete loan signing of Malen from Aston Villa with option to buy
Roma have signed Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Aston Villa after just one year with the Premier League side. Villa said the deal was completed for an undisclosed fee. Roma, however, said in a statement the move is a loan with an option to buy for the 26-year-old attacker.
Malen scored 10 goals in 46 appearances for Villa after joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2025. He has seven goals for Unai Emery’s side this season but struggled for regular minutes, making only five league starts across 21 appearances in the current campaign.
Malen is a former Ajax and Arsenal youth player and began his senior professional career at PSV Eindhoven before moving to Dortmund in 2021. Across his club career, he has scored 104 goals in 294 appearances, and he has 13 goals in 49 games for the Netherlands.
He will wear the number 14 shirt at Roma, who are currently fifth in Serie A. The transfer ends Malen’s short spell in England and gives Roma another attacking option for the rest of the season under the terms outlined in the Italian club’s announcement.
