Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged his old club to prepare for Bruno Fernandes’ potential departure by targeting Cole Palmer. The suggestion comes amid uncertainty over the Portuguese midfielder’s long-term future at Old Trafford. According to Football365.com.
Saha identifies Palmer as “dream target” to succeed aging United captain
Louis Saha believes United should consider Palmer as a replacement option, describing the Chelsea star as a “dream target” for the Manchester club. The former striker highlighted Palmer’s versatility and reliability, noting he “can play pretty much anywhere in attack” and has remained “the main man” despite Chelsea’s rotating forward line.
Saha’s recommendation stems from concerns over Fernandes’ future, with the 31-year-old midfielder potentially considering his options due to United’s uncertain direction under INEOS ownership. The former United forward suggested Fernandes might evaluate his position given the club’s strategic uncertainty and his desire for major silverware.
The Portuguese captain’s trophy cabinet remains relatively sparse during his United career, containing just an FA Cup and League Cup. Saha acknowledged Fernandes’ dedication to the club but questioned whether the midfielder might seek opportunities elsewhere to achieve his ambitions for major honours.
Fernandes previously rejected a lucrative Saudi Arabian offer from Al-Hilal that would have paid him a reported £700,000 per week. The midfielder reaffirmed his commitment to United in October, stating he feels good at the club and wants to achieve his dreams there.
However, Saha emphasized the reality of modern football decision-making, telling CasinoHawks that regardless of club loyalty, players must ultimately “make your own decision” about their careers. He noted Fernandes was disappointed by certain behaviours regarding his future that he didn’t appreciate.
