Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has issued a firm warning to Inter and AFC Bournemouth that centre-back Tarik Muharemovic will not be sold during the January transfer window, despite confirming the club has received contact from several interested parties regarding the 22-year-old defender.
Sassuolo CEO Carnevali Rules Out January Sale of Muharemovic to Inter and Bournemouth
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has attracted significant interest from Serie A and Premier League clubs heading into the January transfer window. Muharemovic joined Sassuolo on an initial season-long loan in 2024-25 in a deal that included a conditional obligation to buy, with the mandatory purchase option activated when the Neroverdi secured promotion from Serie B at the end of that campaign for a reported fee of €5 million including bonuses.
Carnevali, speaking to DAZN ahead of Sassuolo’s Serie A match against Juventus on Tuesday night, insisted the club has no intention of selling Muharemovic this window despite ongoing interest. “His value depends on who’s asking,” Carnevali stated. “We will not sell him in January. We’ve had contact from several clubs, he has a high value, but he has to prove it. It’s a high bar.”
The Sassuolo chief executive emphasised the club’s reluctance to part with key players during the winter window, explaining their transfer strategy moving forward. “We don’t want to sell our most important players,” Carnevali continued. “If there’s a chance to strengthen, we will look to do it, but we prefer younger players as always.” Reports in Italy suggest Muharemovic could now be valued at around €30 million, with Juventus retaining a 50 per cent sell-on clause from his previous transfer.
Carnevali also provided injury updates on two key players ahead of Tuesday’s fixture, confirming that both Domenico Berardi and Cristian Volpato will be sidelined. “Berardi will be out for about 10 days, as will Volpato,” the CEO revealed. The Sassuolo executive described the match against Juventus as representing “the pinnacle” for his side, adding that a positive result could change their seasonal objectives from mere survival to more ambitious targets.
