Shrewsbury Town have secured the loan signing of 19-year-old striker Trey Ogunsuyi from Sunderland, with the Belgium youth international becoming the club’s second January transfer window acquisition following the arrival of Iwan Morgan from Brentford.

The teenage forward has made one first-team appearance for Sunderland, featuring in an FA Cup third round tie against Stoke City in January last year. Ogunsuyi spent the first half of last season on loan with Scottish Premiership side Falkirk, where he accumulated nine league appearances during his temporary spell north of the border.
The Belgium youth international enjoyed a prolific campaign with Sunderland’s development sides last season, netting 15 goals in 20 appearances across under-18 and under-21 level. His impressive scoring record at youth level has attracted interest from Shrewsbury head coach Michael Appleton, who believes the striker can make an immediate impact in League Two.
Appleton praised Ogunsuyi’s physical attributes and versatility, highlighting the player’s ability to operate in different attacking roles. “Trey has got really good physical attributes, he is a big lad, he’s strong and he’s got good pace,” the Shrewsbury manager said. “I like the fact his movement is good. He is comfortable running in behind just as much as he is coming towards the ball. He gives you both options.”
The head coach acknowledged that Ogunsuyi’s previous loan spell at Falkirk did not provide the regular playing time the striker desired, expressing confidence that Shrewsbury can offer better opportunities. “He didn’t get the minutes he would have wanted at Falkirk, but hopefully we can give him that opportunity and he can score a lot of goals for us,” Appleton added. Ogunsuyi joins Shrewsbury with the club positioned 22nd in League Two, sitting just two points above the relegation zone.
