Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has dismissed speculation linking the club with a January move for Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa, stating he has heard nothing concrete about a potential return to Turin for the Italian international who joined Anfield in summer 2024.
Spalletti Denies Juventus Interest in Liverpool’s Chiesa Amid Transfer Speculation
Chiesa arrived at Liverpool in summer 2024 but has struggled for consistent game time under manager Arne Slot, making 34 appearances with only seven starts. The Italian winger’s limited influence at Anfield has sparked speculation about a potential return to Serie A, with reports from Italy suggesting Juventus are exploring a loan move during the January transfer window.
When questioned directly about the Chiesa links, Spalletti offered a pointed dismissal of the rumours. “I am pleased you are giving me this news, seeing as we haven’t even had a meeting yet on the transfer market, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Spalletti told Football Italia. The Juventus boss added that the speculation was “just thrown out there, but absolutely nothing concrete behind it.”
Liverpool have not received any formal approach from Juventus for Chiesa’s services, with Slot publicly describing the winger as a useful squad option during a congested season. The Liverpool manager has particularly valued Chiesa’s availability while striker Alexander Isak remains sidelined through injury, making a mid-season departure appear counterintuitive for the Merseyside club.
Spalletti’s current stance contrasts with comments he made twelve months earlier while managing Italy’s national team, when he openly encouraged Chiesa to return to Serie A. At that time, Spalletti argued that proximity to Italian football would benefit the player, praising Chiesa’s “quality of looking you in the eye and breaking the line in front of them to get to the next one” as a rare attribute in modern football.
The speculation around Chiesa continues as Liverpool remain in a period of adjustment under Slot’s management, with the Italian winger still searching for the rhythm that defined his previous spell at Juventus. Despite the ongoing rumours, both clubs appear focused on their immediate priorities rather than pursuing any January transfer negotiations.
