Tottenham have reportedly made a €100m (£87m) offer for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as they look to bolster their squad in January. A Spanish report claims Liverpool have submitted a similar bid, leaving Madrid with two offers of the same value. The same report says Madrid rate the France international highly and are in no hurry to act.

Tottenham linked with €100m bid for Tchouameni as Real Madrid weigh options

Tottenham have made an audacious attempt to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports in Spain. Fichajes said Spurs have put forward a €100m (£87m) offer for the France international. The report described Tottenham as pushing to add quality in midfield and suggested the club believe Tchouameni would be an immediate fit.

The report added Tottenham’s main competition is expected to come from Liverpool, claiming the Merseyside club have also launched a bid of the same amount. Fichajes said Real Madrid have “received two offers of €100m each,” with both Premier League sides credited with prolonged monitoring and positive internal reports on the midfielder’s performances at the Spanish club.

Fichajes also reported that Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has complete faith in Tchouameni. The report said Madrid view the player as a fundamental part of their present and immediate future, and that the club are “in no hurry” to make a decision as the days pass. Tottenham have already added to their midfield options this month by signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

Separately, Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke said centre-back Micky van de Ven could consider moving away in the next couple of transfer windows if Spurs do not qualify for the Champions League. O’Rourke said Van de Ven, who is under a contract until 2029, would be difficult to sign because Tottenham are tough negotiators and would demand a “big, big fee” if there were any indication he wanted to leave.
