Tottenham have confirmed the signing of England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for £35 million, with the 25-year-old joining on a contract running until 2031 after Spurs beat Aston Villa to his signature following his departure from Chelsea in August 2024.

Spurs secured Gallagher’s services after beating Aston Villa to the former Chelsea player’s signature, with the England international expressing his delight at joining the north London club. The 25-year-old midfielder left Chelsea for Atletico Madrid in August 2024 for approximately £33 million as part of a deal that saw Joao Felix move to Stamford Bridge, though the Portuguese forward has since departed the Blues.

Gallagher spoke enthusiastically about his move to Tottenham, stating his excitement about taking the next step in his career at what he described as “an amazing club”. The midfielder praised the club’s supporters and expressed his desire to create special moments with the fanbase, saying he knows how great the fans are and wants to be part of something special at the club.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank highlighted Gallagher’s leadership qualities and technical attributes as key factors in the club’s pursuit of the midfielder. Frank described Gallagher as “a top midfielder” and praised his captaincy experience, stating that he will bring leadership, maturity, character and personality to the dressing room while his running power, pressing ability and eye for goal will strengthen a key area of the pitch.

The signing addresses Tottenham’s need for midfield reinforcement following Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury setback, with the Uruguay international ruled out for at least three months after requiring surgery on a hamstring injury sustained during the 3-2 Premier League defeat by Bournemouth last week. Gallagher’s arrival provides Frank with additional options in midfield as Spurs look to improve their current league position.

Gallagher brings significant experience to Tottenham, having made 136 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace before his move to La Liga. During his time at Atletico Madrid, he represented the Spanish club 77 times across all competitions, scoring seven goals, while also earning 22 caps for England, including five appearances during the 2024 European Championship campaign where the Three Lions reached the final.
