Spurs Enter Race for Palace Striker as Forest Face Transfer Hijack
Journalist Nicolo Schira reports that Tottenham have opened talks with Crystal Palace for Jean-Philippe Mateta, potentially disrupting other clubs’ plans for the striker. The north London club’s interest comes as they seek further additions following the signings of Conor Gallagher and Souza this month.
Nottingham Forest have reportedly made a £35m move for Mateta, who is valued by Palace at £40m. However, Spurs’ entry into negotiations could complicate Forest’s pursuit of the striker, who has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Selhurst Park.
Schira indicates that Mateta’s potential arrival could trigger Randal Kolo Muani’s departure from Tottenham. The journalist stated that if Spurs sign the Palace forward, they “will give the green light for Randal Kolo Muani’s departure”, suggesting a direct correlation between the two moves.
Meanwhile, Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Bayern Munich have opened the door for Leon Goretzka to leave this month, with Tottenham among the interested parties. The German midfielder’s contract expires at the end of this season, prompting Bayern to consider a January sale.
Tottenham face competition from Atletico Madrid for Goretzka’s signature, with Diego Simeone’s side reportedly trying to finalise a deal. The report suggests Bayern Munich prefer receiving a small transfer fee now rather than losing the midfielder for free in the summer.
