Tottenham have reportedly lodged a €100m (£87m) offer for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as Thomas Frank looks for January reinforcements. Spanish outlet Fichajes said Liverpool have made a similar bid, leaving Real Madrid with two offers of the same value. The report added Madrid are in no rush to act and still view the France international as central to their plans.
Tottenham reportedly bid €100m for Tchouameni as Real Madrid weigh options
Tottenham have made an audacious attempt to bring Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni to north London, according to reports in Spain. Fichajes said Spurs have submitted an “offer” of €100m (£87m) for the France international, as the Premier League club look to strengthen during the January window amid a difficult season under Thomas Frank.
The report said Tottenham’s main competition for Tchouameni would come from Liverpool, who have reportedly launched a similar bid. Fichajes added that Real Madrid have “received two offers of €100m each,” with Tottenham described as believing Tchouameni would be an immediate fit for their “project” as they try to take a competitive leap.
Fichajes also claimed Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has “complete faith” in the midfielder. The same report said both Tottenham and Liverpool have carried out “prolonged monitoring” and produced “very positive reports” on Tchouameni’s performances at Real Madrid, but indicated the Spanish club are relaxed about any decision.
“As the days go by, everything indicates that Real Madrid is in no hurry to make a move,” the report added, describing Tchouameni as a “fundamental piece” of the club’s present and immediate future. Tottenham have been linked with further midfield recruitment after bringing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid earlier this month, while Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has also been mentioned in recent days.
Separate reports suggested Tottenham could face a significant departure in the next couple of windows. Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke said Micky van de Ven could consider moving if Spurs are not playing Champions League football next season, adding the defender is under contract until 2029 and that Tottenham would seek a “big, big fee” in any negotiations.
