Tottenham are preparing an improved offer for Santos defender Souza after their initial £8 million bid was rejected by the Brazilian club. The 19-year-old left-back is open to joining Spurs and likes the prospect of playing in the Premier League and living in London.
Tottenham Set to Submit Improved Offer for Santos Left-Back Souza After Rejection
Santos are demanding a fee in the region of €20 million for the teenage defender, and Tottenham are prepared to meet the asking price according to AS journalist Eduardo Burgos. The North London club remain keen on securing Souza’s signature despite seeing their opening €10 million offer turned down by the Brazilian side.
The player is attracted to Tottenham’s sporting project and is eager to make the move to the Premier League this January. Reliable journalist Ben Jacobs confirmed that several European clubs are enquiring about Souza, including Italian giants AC Milan, with the Brazilian keen to secure a move away from Santos during the current transfer window.
Newcastle United have been linked with Souza in recent reports, but Jacobs dismissed these claims as inaccurate. The journalist stated on social media that Newcastle are not involved in the pursuit of the Santos academy graduate, despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
Tottenham’s interest in Souza stems from their need to strengthen the left-back position, with Destiny Udogie currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury. While Djed Spence has performed adequately as a makeshift left-back, manager Thomas Frank wants to bolster that area of the squad with a natural left-sided defender.
Souza has established himself as one of South America’s most exciting defensive prospects, making over 30 senior appearances for Santos during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The Santos academy product helped the club during their Serie B campaign and subsequent promotion back to Brazil’s top flight, showcasing his ability with quick feet, explosive pace and strong crossing ability from wide areas.
