Tottenham have agreed a £13 million deal to sign Brazilian full-back Souza from Santos, with the 19-year-old defender set to undergo a medical examination in the coming days before completing his move to north London during the January transfer window.

Tottenham Agree £13 Million Transfer Deal for Santos Defender Souza

The teenage defender made 29 appearances for Santos last season, contributing one goal and two assists while establishing himself as a regular starter for the Brazilian club. Souza missed approximately four months during the campaign due to an ankle injury before returning to become a key player in Santos’ defensive setup.

Souza’s arrival forms part of Tottenham’s strategy to reinvigorate their entire left side this month, with the club identifying both a left-winger and left-back as priorities for the January window. The Brazilian is described as fast, quick and very offensive in his playing style, fitting the profile Spurs were seeking for the position.

The defender attracted interest from AC Milan and Newcastle United before Tottenham made their decisive move to secure his signature. Souza will become Spurs’ first new incoming arrival of the January transfer window, with manager Thomas Frank having made clear his desire for new signings that can improve the team.

Tottenham have already been active in the transfer market this month, selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35 million while Jamie Donley joined Oxford United on loan with a buy-option included in the deal. Yang Min-hyeok is set to join Coventry City on loan for the second half of the season after struggling for regular minutes during his Portsmouth loan spell.

The club have also recalled Alfie Dorrington from his Aberdeen loan and Damola Ajayi from Doncaster Rovers, with Dorrington expected to be sent out on loan again. Japanese defender Kota Takai has switched to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, while Manor Solomon joined Fiorentina on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
