Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has agreed personal terms with Galatasaray over a potential transfer this month, while teammate Kobbie Mainoo has reversed his decision to leave Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal as head coach on Monday morning.
Ugarte Reaches Galatasaray Agreement While Mainoo Performs Exit U-Turn After Amorim Sacking
Ugarte has reached an agreement with the Turkish club on all personal terms according to journalist Kagan Dursun, though the move remains conditional on Galatasaray’s other transfer priorities. The Uruguayan midfielder, who joined United for £50 million, has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford and was previously linked with a £26 million loan-to-buy arrangement that the club would accept.
Dursun confirmed that Galatasaray will intensify contact with Manchester United if they cannot secure their main targets, with Ugarte serving as an alternative option. The Turkish club’s pursuit of the 23-year-old depends on developments with other potential signings, leaving the transfer in a state of uncertainty despite the personal terms being agreed between player and club.
Meanwhile, Mainoo has performed what talkSPORT describes as an “exit U-turn” following Amorim’s departure from the club. The England midfielder was reportedly desperate to leave his boyhood club this month after failing to start a single Premier League game all season under the Portuguese coach, with Serie A giants Napoli among several top European clubs registering interest in a loan deal.
Sources close to the academy graduate told talkSPORT that Mainoo is now open to staying and fighting to win a place in the team following the managerial change. The 20-year-old had initially looked likely to join Antonio Conte’s Napoli on loan but has changed his stance after Amorim’s dismissal, opting to remain at Old Trafford and compete for opportunities under the incoming interim manager.
United are currently in the process of appointing an interim boss until the summer, at which point the club will bring in a permanent successor. The Red Devils parted ways with Amorim after he became increasingly outspoken in press conferences while performances remained dire and he clashed with director of football Jason Wilcox.
