Tottenham have reportedly set a £100 million valuation on centre-back Micky van de Ven in response to interest from Liverpool and Manchester United. TeamTalk said Spurs are aware of the attention and have moved to protect a key player while contract talks remain unresolved. The report added Tottenham want a new long-term deal that would double his salary, but suggested there is little chance of agreement.
Tottenham demand £100m for Van de Ven as Liverpool monitor defender talks
Tottenham have told interested clubs they will have to pay £100 million to sign Micky van de Ven, according to a report from TeamTalk. Liverpool and Manchester United were named as suitors in the story, with Spurs described as “acutely aware” of the interest. TeamTalk said Tottenham responded by putting a major price tag on the Netherlands international as uncertainty continues around his contract situation.
TeamTalk reported Liverpool “very much like” the 24-year-old as a long-term option in defence, describing him as a potential solution as Arne Slot reshapes the squad. The report said both Liverpool and United admire Van de Ven’s recovery pace, composure and the balance he provides on the left side of central defence, qualities the story suggested have become increasingly rare in the market.
Tottenham’s position was linked to stalled contract negotiations. TeamTalk said Spurs want to tie Van de Ven down to a new long-term deal and that the proposed terms would see his salary doubled. However, the report added there is “little chance of persuading” Van de Ven to sign, which it said has prompted Tottenham to adopt a firm stance as interest grows.
The report said a £100 million fee would make Van de Ven the most expensive defender in football history, surpassing the £80 million Manchester United spent on Harry Maguire in 2019. TeamTalk added Liverpool and United will continue to monitor the situation closely. The story also said Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are aware of the situation as Tottenham seek to avoid appearing “weak in the market.”
