Aston Villa confirmed Douglas Luiz has returned from Juventus on a loan deal for the rest of the 2025-26 season. The move brings the Brazilian back to familiar surroundings at Villa Park after he left the club in the summer of 2024 to join the Serie A giants.
Villa said on their official website they are “delighted” to welcome Luiz back, with the midfielder set to rejoin the squad for the second half of the campaign. The club’s announcement frames the deal as a reunion with a side where Luiz previously enjoyed the most productive spell of his career.
The return follows a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season, where Luiz struggled to have much involvement. Villa did not provide further details about his time at Forest in their confirmation of the deal.
Luiz originally signed for Villa in 2019 and went on to make more than 200 appearances for the Premier League club. During his first stint, he was described as a fan favourite for his energy, technical quality and eye for goal from midfield, and he swept Villa’s end-of-season awards in 2022-23, winning both Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season.
Villa also highlighted Luiz’s connection with the club in a social media post that quoted the midfielder saying: “I miss Villa guys, I miss to play in Villa Park, I miss everything… always in my heart.”
