West Ham United have agreed a €20m deal with AS Monaco for midfielder Soungoutou Magassa, with the 21-year-old set to travel to London for his medical ahead of completing the transfer before September’s deadline.
Monaco’s Magassa Set for West Ham Medical After €20m Deal Agreement
West Ham United have secured a breakthrough in their pursuit of AS Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa, with multiple sources confirming an agreement worth €17 million plus €3 million in performance-related add-ons. The deal represents a crucial reinforcement for Graham Potter’s squad following their disappointing start to the season and Edson Alvarez’s recent loan departure to Fenerbahce.
The 21-year-old France international is expected to travel to London imminently to undergo his medical examination, marking the final major hurdle before the transfer’s completion ahead of the September 1 deadline. Monaco have also secured a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement, while Magassa is understood to be signing a six-year contract with the Hammers once formalities are concluded.
Potter’s urgency to strengthen his midfield options has intensified following West Ham’s weak opening to the campaign, with reports indicating the versatile midfielder represents a priority target. Magassa, who can operate as both a box-to-box midfielder and center-back, brings international experience from France’s U20, U21, and Olympic squads to address the squad’s current shortcomings.
Monaco’s willingness to sanction the move comes after they rejected an earlier approach from Nottingham Forest, but West Ham’s improved offer has met their valuation for the promising talent. The player has given his approval to the transfer and is cooperating to expedite the process, recognizing the Premier League opportunity as a significant career advancement.
While no official announcements have been made by either club as of August 26, credible sources including Fabrizio Romano have confirmed the deal’s advanced stage. The medical examination and contract signing remain the outstanding formalities, with West Ham expected to announce the signing before September’s transfer window closure, pending successful completion of all remaining procedures.
