Wolfsburg Hold Concrete Transfer Talks With Toulouse for England U21 Defender Charlie Cresswell
The 23-year-old central defender has established himself as a key player for Toulouse this season, making 17 appearances across all competitions and contributing three goals from defence. Cresswell’s performances have also earned him six England Under-21 caps during the current campaign, building on his involvement in the summer’s European Championships where he was part of the victorious England U21 squad.
Cresswell began his career as a product of the Leeds United academy, making a handful of first-team appearances for the Yorkshire club between 2020 and 2024. His development included a loan spell at Millwall before completing his move to Toulouse in 2024, where he has quickly adapted to French football and become a regular starter in their defensive line.
Wolfsburg have been actively searching for defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window and had compiled a list of potential targets. The German club previously scouted Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer but were unable to secure clearance to hold formal discussions with the Norwegian international defender.
The Bundesliga side have also explored other options, including Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi, who becomes available for free transfer discussions as his contract expires this summer. However, there are currently no developments regarding the Dutch defender, leaving Cresswell as Wolfsburg’s primary target to strengthen their defensive options for the remainder of the season.
