Kalvin Phillips could be on the move again in January, with Wolverhampton Wanderers in talks to sign the Manchester City midfielder, according to a report. The Daily Mail said Wolves want to add depth in central midfield and are discussing a deal before the window closes. Any move is expected to require City help with wages because Phillips earns £150,000 a week.

Wolves hold talks to sign Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in January window

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move away from Manchester City, with Wolverhampton Wanderers interested in securing his signature. According to a report from The Daily Mail, Phillips is in talks to join Wolves before the January transfer window closes as the Midlands club look to bring in more quality and depth in midfield.

The report said Wolves are fighting for survival in the Premier League and want reinforcements in the middle of the park. Phillips has struggled to secure regular opportunities at City and is looking for more game time. Wolves, the report added, should be able to provide him with more chances if an agreement is reached.

Phillips’ career has dipped since he joined City, and he has not matched the form he showed at Leeds United, according to the report. He has also been linked with a return to Leeds, but the report said a move back to Elland Road in January now appears highly likely, leaving Wolves as another potential destination this month.

The report did not say whether Wolves are pursuing a loan or a permanent transfer. It added that City would need to subsidise some of Phillips’ wages for the move to go through because he earns £150,000 a week and Wolves are unlikely to be able to afford that figure on their own.

A loan would be an ideal outcome for Wolves, the report said, allowing the club to add physicality and defensive strength without significant investment. If Phillips impresses in the second half of the campaign, Wolves could then look to make the move permanent, according to the report.
