Joshua Zirkzee has expressed his desire to stay at Manchester United for the remainder of the season, rejecting potential interest from Serie A club Roma despite his struggles for regular first-team football at Old Trafford. According to Footballtoday.com.

Zirkzee commits to United despite Roma links and limited game time

The 24-year-old Netherlands international has found opportunities limited this season, making just 14 appearances in the Premier League with 10 of those coming as a substitute. Despite scoring two goals and providing one assist, Zirkzee currently sits behind Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo in the pecking order at United.

Zirkzee’s commitment comes after missing the previous two matches through injury, though he has resumed training this week and is expected to be available for selection against Fulham. The striker joined United for £36.5 million following an impressive 2023-24 campaign with Bologna, where he netted 11 goals in 34 Serie A matches.

However, the Dutch forward has struggled to replicate that form in England, managing only nine goals in 65 senior appearances since his arrival. While highly rated for his link-up play and ball-carrying abilities, Zirkzee appears more comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder rather than a traditional striker role.

The forward’s contract runs until 2029, but United are likely to consider his future in the summer transfer window. The club may look to sign a specialist striker to provide support for Sesko, given Zirkzee’s challenges as a reliable goalscorer in his current position.
