Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento faces up to eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury during the club’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, with the club awaiting scan results to determine the full extent of the damage.

Tino Livramento Could Miss Eight Weeks as Newcastle Await Scan Results

Newcastle United are bracing for an extended period without Tino Livramento after the defender was carried off on a stretcher during the 77th minute of their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal. Initial medical assessments suggest the 21-year-old has avoided a repeat ACL injury, but reports indicate he could be sidelined for up to eight weeks as the club awaits comprehensive scan results to confirm the severity of his knee problem.

Manager Eddie Howe confirmed Livramento’s absence from Newcastle’s Champions League squad traveling to Belgium for their fixture against Union SG on September 30, 2025. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Howe stated: “We’re still awaiting feedback on the extent of his injury, but apart from that we are okay.” The injury occurred after an awkward fall during the Arsenal match, with the defender requiring immediate substitution by Jamaal Lascelles as Newcastle conceded two late goals to lose at home.

The potential eight-week absence represents a significant blow for Newcastle, who are already struggling with defensive injuries and currently sit 15th in the Premier League after six matches. Kieran Trippier is expected to return to the right-back position in Livramento’s absence, with the club’s defensive resources already stretched due to other injury concerns affecting squad depth.

Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph provided cautiously optimistic news, reporting that “it doesn’t sound like Tino Livramento has suffered another ACL injury,” which aligns with the club’s preliminary medical feedback. However, Newcastle’s management remains focused on understanding the complete diagnosis before making definitive statements about recovery timelines or tactical adjustments for upcoming Premier League and Champions League fixtures.

The club’s cautious approach reflects Livramento’s importance to their defensive setup, with the versatile defender having previously covered multiple positions due to Newcastle’s injury problems. While the exact recovery timeline remains uncertain pending specialist opinions and detailed scan results, the estimated eight-week absence would impact crucial fixtures across domestic and European competitions, forcing Howe to reconsider his defensive strategies and squad rotation plans during a critical period of the season.
