Gabriel Martinelli issued a public apology after shoving injured Liverpool defender Conor Bradley off the pitch during Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday. The Brazilian winger revealed he has apologised directly to Bradley, who left the stadium on crutches wearing a supportive brace on his left knee following the incident in the closing stages.

Martinelli Issues Public Apology After Controversial Incident With Injured Bradley

Martinelli threw the ball at Bradley and manhandled him as he lay on the turf in the closing stages of Thursday’s goalless draw. The 22-year-old Liverpool defender struck the crossbar in the opening half but suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury later in the match. Bradley now looks set for a significant spell on the sidelines pending scan results.

The Arsenal winger was booked for the flashpoint, which provoked anger from Liverpool’s players and nearly sparked a mass brawl. Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane called Martinelli “a disgrace” on Sky Sports following the incident. The Brazilian was considered fortunate not to receive a red card for his actions toward the injured defender.

In response to the backlash, Martinelli posted a story on his Instagram account addressing the controversy. “Conor and I have messaged and I have already apologised to him,” Martinelli wrote. “I really didn’t understand he was seriously injured in the heat of the moment. I want to say I’m deeply sorry for reacting. Sending Conor all my best again for a quick recovery.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta defended his player during his post-match news conference, suggesting Martinelli was unaware of the severity of Bradley’s injury. “Knowing Gabi, he’s an incredible, lovely guy, and he probably didn’t realise what happened,” Arteta said. “I hope that Conor is well, I will have a word with him to understand that. Probably Martinelli didn’t recognise what happened.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed understanding for Martinelli’s reaction while confirming fears over Bradley’s injury. “I fear the worst for Conor Bradley,” Slot said. “I don’t know yet but he had to go off on a stretcher. We’ll have to wait on the scans to see if it’s that bad.” The draw takes Arsenal six points clear of Manchester City, with the reigning champions now 14 points behind the Gunners.
