Tottenham midfielder James Maddison says he is “feeling better each day” as he continues his recovery from a ruptured ACL sustained in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle. The 29-year-old underwent surgery and has been rehabilitating away from the club, recently spending a couple of weeks training in Dubai. Maddison said he still has “work to do” but cannot wait to represent Spurs again.
Maddison says he’s ‘feeling better each day’ as Tottenham rehab continues
James Maddison has provided an injury update as he works back from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, saying he is improving during his rehabilitation. The Tottenham midfielder has not featured for Spurs since the setback, which came during a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United. Maddison, 29, underwent surgery and has continued his recovery programme.
The England international is expected to remain out for several more months, but has been making progress. Maddison has trained for the last couple of weeks in Dubai and has been spotted working both on and off the pitch during his time in the United Arab Emirates. He posted photos from the trip on Instagram, combining training with time spent with his family.
“Enjoyable few weeks away. Working hard & family time abroad = mental refresh,” Maddison wrote. “Still got work to do but feeling better each day & cannot wait to be back out there representing Spurs. The grind continues.” The post included images of him training and spending time with a member of Tottenham’s backroom staff.
In one gym image, Maddison wore a 2010/11 Tottenham light blue away shirt. The report said it was the second time he was seen wearing a retro Spurs jersey during the trip, also featuring a replica 2011/12 home shirt with Rafael van der Vaart’s name on the back while doing dribbling and shooting drills on the grass.
Maddison scored 12 goals and added 11 assists in 45 appearances for Tottenham last season, but he has not played since April and is not expected to return until the back end of this season. Last month, Maddison said realising he could miss most, “if not the whole season,” was difficult mentally and likely rules him out of the World Cup, adding that his priority is returning safely and being fit for Tottenham.
