Napoli confirmed two more injury setbacks, announcing David Neres has undergone successful surgery on his left ankle in London and will begin a rehabilitation programme after a short rest. The club also said goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has started rehab following medical tests that showed a biceps femoris strain in his left thigh. Milinkovic-Savic missed Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Juventus.
Napoli confirm Neres ankle operation and Milinkovic-Savic thigh strain
Napoli said winger David Neres has opted for surgery to address an ankle problem that has troubled him in recent weeks. The club confirmed the operation took place in London on Monday and described it as “a complete success.” Napoli added Neres will rest for a few days before beginning his rehabilitation programme.
The update came with Napoli noting how injuries have affected Antonio Conte’s squad in 2025-26. Romelu Lukaku has only just returned from an injury sustained the week before the Serie A season began. Napoli also said Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out of the last 21 matches across all competitions, Billy Gilmour the last 19 and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa the last 17.
Napoli added that several other players have had knocks at various stages of the campaign, naming Stanislav Lobotka, Matteo Politano, Amir Rrahmani, Sam Beukema and Alessandro Buongiorno. The club did not give further detail on those issues in its statement alongside the Neres and Milinkovic-Savic updates.
Goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who was ruled out of Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Juventus, was also given a fresh medical bulletin. Napoli said he underwent examinations at Pineta Grande hospital that “revealed a strain of the biceps femoris in his left thigh,” adding that the keeper has already started his rehabilitation programme.
