Jack Grealish’s promising loan spell at Everton faces a devastating conclusion with the winger expected to miss the rest of the season through injury. The Manchester City loanee requires surgery on a stress fracture sustained during Everton’s victory over Aston Villa. According to Skysports.com.
Grealish surgery blow threatens to end Everton loan spell prematurely
Manager David Moyes confirmed the severity of Grealish’s foot injury ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton, stating the 30-year-old will likely undergo surgery. The stress fracture was suffered during Everton’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on January 18, casting doubt over the remainder of his loan spell.
Speaking on Friday, Moyes revealed the extent of the setback facing his key player. “We believe he’s probably going to need surgery, but that’s still not absolutely confirmed, but it probably rules him out for the rest of the season, yes,” the Everton boss explained during his pre-match press conference.
The injury represents a significant blow for both player and club, with Grealish having revitalised his career at Goodison Park this season. Moyes emphasised the impact of losing such an influential figure, describing him as “such an important part” and “a big character, big experience for us” who had been performing “a lot of really good things”.
Grealish’s absence threatens to derail any hopes of breaking into England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup. The winger had been thriving at Everton after a frustrating spell at City, contributing two goals and six assists in 22 appearances while creating numerous chances beyond those statistics.
When asked about Grealish’s long-term future given his success at Everton prior to the injury, Moyes remained cautious about any speculation. The manager described such discussions as “far too early” to consider, focusing instead on the immediate challenge of replacing his creativity and experience for the remainder of the campaign.
