Zirkzee targets comeback under Carrick after missing key victories
The 24-year-old Dutch forward confirmed he is feeling positive about his recovery prospects ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Fulham. “I’m feeling good,” Zirkzee told club media, adding that he “should be back very soon” despite finding the injury period frustrating.
Zirkzee’s enthusiasm for working with Michael Carrick was evident as he discussed the recent performances under the former midfielder’s guidance. The striker admitted he shared celebratory comments on social media whilst watching both victories and “can’t wait” to join the new setup on the training ground.
The prospect of returning holds special significance given Sunday’s opponents, with Zirkzee having marked his debut against Fulham last season by coming off the bench to score a late winner. His eagerness to contribute was clear as he stated the recent City performance made him “want to be on the pitch and just help the team”.
Reflecting on the derby victory over Manchester City, Zirkzee praised the collective hunger displayed by his teammates. He highlighted “the small moments” and noted how the team “looked very hungry” in both attacking and defending phases, describing it as giving “what we were expected to give on derby day”.
