Patrick Dorgu has rejected Ruben Amorim’s criticism during their time together at Manchester United, insisting the former manager was “wrong” to describe him as anxious and questioning the timing of those remarks. According to Football365.com.
Dorgu disputes Amorim’s ‘anxiety’ assessment after United struggles
The Denmark international was Amorim’s first signing as United boss, joining for £25m from Lecce in January 2025. However, their relationship became strained as Dorgu initially struggled at Old Trafford during the Portuguese manager’s difficult 14-month tenure.
Following a 1-0 defeat to Everton in November, Amorim publicly criticised Dorgu’s performances. “You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball,” the former manager stated. “I can feel the anxiety.”
Reflecting on those comments in an interview with The Telegraph, Dorgu admitted the criticism affected him but disputed Amorim’s assessment. “I don’t think that was the word he was looking for,” Dorgu explained. “Anxious? I don’t think it was that.”
The 23-year-old questioned the timing of Amorim’s remarks, highlighting his contrasting performances for Denmark. “I think he said it at the wrong time because I played well in the national team,” Dorgu added. “I don’t see how I can play well in one and play bad in the other.”
Dorgu became the early hero of Michael Carrick’s caretaker reign, scoring in shock victories over Manchester City and Arsenal before being sidelined by a hamstring injury. United have won nine of their 13 games under Carrick, who has all-but secured Champions League football next season.
