Carrick plots Bayern Munich coaching raid as United future takes shape
TEAMtalk reports that Danks is high on Carrick’s wishlist as he shapes a potential permanent backroom team at Old Trafford. The 42-year-old currently works under Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich, having joined the German side in 2024 following their successful partnership at Anderlecht in 2021.
United have already carried out background work on Danks and been impressed by their findings, according to sources. His tactical acumen, adaptability and experience working across multiple elite environments have all been noted as the Red Devils conduct due diligence on potential coaching additions.
Danks boasts an impressive coaching CV spanning England youth teams, Aston Villa under multiple managers including Steven Gerrard and Unai Emery, and a successful stint with Carrick at Middlesbrough from December 2022. He even took charge of Bayern’s Champions League thriller at PSG, which they lost 5-4, when Kompany was banned from the touchline.
The interest in Danks is concrete, though no formal approach has been made yet, signifying Carrick’s determination to assemble his preferred coaching setup. If appointed permanently, Danks would join an evolving backroom team that already includes Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate, both arriving following Carrick’s interim appointment.
Carrick remains in interim charge but has emerged as a strong contender for the permanent role after pushing United to the brink of Champions League qualification. The former Middlesbrough chief is clearly planning ahead as he puts another marker down to secure the coaching team he wants fully on board.
