Liverpool are reportedly in a strong position to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara in January, with Andoni Iraola seeking midfield reinforcements. Monaco are said to want around £50m, but Chelsea’s change of focus and the player’s reported openness to a move could work in the Reds’ favour. According to Caughtoffside.com.

Chelsea’s shift in focus could leave Liverpool ahead in Camara chase

Monaco are now willing to negotiate a departure for the Senegal international, according to Football Insider, which adds that the player is open to discussing a move to Anfield. Liverpool kept tabs on his situation through the summer, so the January opening arrives after sustained interest.

Chelsea came close to signing Camara in the summer, reportedly agreeing a deal worth £47 million. Monaco pulled out of the negotiations after another proposed departure from their squad failed to materialise. Chelsea have since turned to alternative midfield targets, potentially leaving Liverpool better placed to finish the deal.

Liverpool must still agree terms with Monaco, who reportedly want roughly £50 million to let him leave in January. The Ligue 1 club are keen to raise substantial funds after failing to sell Camara in the previous window, a position that could benefit Liverpool.

Camara, 22, has built a reputation as one of France’s brightest young midfielders, and he has remained a consistent presence for Monaco in Ligue 1 this season. His defensive contribution and ability to progress the ball could give Iraola greater balance and dynamism in central areas.

Liverpool are expected to keep talking over a possible move, and January offers a chance to secure a player who has long figured on their midfield list. The deal could still prove complicated, yet the Reds appear to hold an advantage in the transfer race.
